Today marks the second edition of the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl originating at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia. The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Champion North Carolina Central Eagles will face off against the Grambling State Tigers, the Southwestern Athletic Conference Champion (SWAC).
The Eagles punched their ticket to Atlanta when they beat their rival North Carolina A&T 42-21 November 19th to win the outright MEAC title. Meanwhile, the Tigers defeated the Alcorn State Braves 27-20 last Saturday at the SWAC Championship game in Houston.
The Eagles come into this game with a 9-2 record. Their only losses were to Duke and Western Michigan. While the Tigers come into this game 10-1. Their only loss was a 31-21 close call against the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson. Grambling was 9-0 in the SWAC.
Grambling is one of the best teams at the FCS level and they are led by Ole Miss transfer, starting quarterback DeVante Kinkade.
The Celebration Bowl will be televised nationally on ABC and online via WatchESPN.
“You don’t know what you don’t know,” said Celebration Bowl Director John Grant. “HBCU Football has a 124 year history and never before have we done this.”
Last year was an epic game. This year with two powerful teams, expect a shootout on Atlanta’s biggest stage.
