On Friday, a former Atlanta Hawks employee by the name of Margo Kline is actually suing the organization for their alleged discrimination towards their white employees. Kline, who was fired in 2017, details encounters with Hawks director David Lee. Kline states Lee, “promoted a culture of discrimination against white people, especially white women.” Hawks are being accused of hiring less than qualified employees who are black ahead of others.
According to the AJC,
“Kline said the organization ignored her complaints and unfairly scrutinized her work and impeded her ability to do her job, often gossiping and ridiculing her. The lawsuit also alleges white coworkers were told not to speak with Kline or they could lose their job.”
Kline is also detailing that the Hawks unfairly disciplined her in hopes of terminating her. She states, “three weeks after a final written warning regarding her conduct and performance,” but she allegedly was never written up prior to receiving a final warning.
The Hawks released a statement saying,
“We take all claims of discrimination seriously and have performed a thorough review of these baseless claims,” the Hawks said in a statement, via Habersham. “The case was quickly dismissed at the EEOC level. We deny these claims and will vigorously defend against them.”
As far as Kline employment with the Hawks, she worked with the Hawks from June 2012-March 2017 as the corporate social responsibility manager, via LinkedIn. With the battle Kline has, I hope she has a great attorney team because she’s going to need all the help she can get for any judge to believe this story. No word of any witnesses or fellow former Hawks workers who agree with Kline’s allegations. Not that it’s not possible or for the Hawks to be guilty of discrimination but what facts other than an unsatisfied fired employee do we have? NOTHING
