College football is back!
Georgia State University hosted Ball State University at the Georgia Dome last night for their season opener. Not only is Trent Miles the 2015 Sun Belt Coach of the Year, he’s also back with his fourth season with the Panthers. I’m always excited to see what he has in store for the new season and how improves the program yearly. One of my favorite rituals of the game is when Coach Miles comes out the player tunnel interlocking his arms with his players as the take the field…a great symbol of unity. The Panthers sported new helmets and jerseys and were ready to take on the Cardinals

They looked great in the first half. Newcomer, QB Connor Manning went 15-21 for 123 yards with one touchdown pass. All-Sun Belt receiver Penny Hart caught 5 passes for 48 yards and scored a touchdown. The score was tied at 14. The second half of the game belonged to the Cardinals, they dominated the Panthers. One field goal and two touchdowns and there was little the Panthers could do. They scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to bring the score 31-21 but it was a wrap. The Cardinals won 31-21.
Losing a season opener on your own turf isn’t they way a team wants to start but someone had to lose. The Panthers next game is Sept. 10 against the Air Force Falcons in Colorado Springs. They won’t be back in the Georgia Dome until Oct. 8. The Panthers slogan this year is #TakeTheNextStep Let’s see what next step the team takes to ensure a win against the Air Force.
