Mississippi State’s historic win against No. 1 UConn in the 2017 Women’s Final Four earned a pair of ESPY nominations on Wednesday.
State was nominated for Best Upset for its victory that ended the Huskies’ NCAA- record 111 game win streak.
Morgan William, known as “Itty Bitty”, who hit the winning jumper at the buzzer, was nominated for Best Play. It is No.2 versus No. 15 seed in the first round voting. The second round voting begins June 28.
William and Victoria Vivians combined for 32 points as the Bulldogs defeat the Huskies 66-64 in overtime to claim its first win against a No. 1 team and advanced to its first-ever national title game.
Vivians and William were named to the ALL-Final Four team for their performance in Dallas.
Former Mississippi State and current Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Dak Prescott, is nominated for Best Breakthrough Athlete. Prescott was named the 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after replacing the injured veteran Tony Romeo. He led the Cowboys 13-3 finish atop the NFC.
