For just a moment there seemed to be a historic upset brewing in Buffalo, New York. The defending champion No. 1 -seed Villanova Wildcats were trailing at half time by a score of 30 – 29 to the No.16- seed Mount St. Mary’s University.
The Wildcats came out in the second half with their championship mindset and seized control of the game. The Wildcats outscored St. Mary’s 46 to 27 over the course of the second half en route to their 20 point victory by a final score of 76 -56. Freshman Donte DiVincenzo led the team in scoring with 21 points while Freshman Miles Wilson led ST. Mary’s in scoring with 22 points
Although Villanova got the victory the Wildcats cannot afford to come out flat in their next game because the competition only gets better from here.
Villanova’s next contest will be on Saturday at 2:40PM as they take on the Wisconsin Badgers in the Round of 32.
