Does Bill Bender Think Your Team is a Contender?

Football Friday

On a very special Football Friday here on the ATL Fan Podcast, we are extremely fortunate to welcome sports journalist, Bill Bender, who is the National college football writer at The Sporting News.

First, sports contributor from the Atlanta Voice, Anfernee Patterson, comes on to talk about the NFL regular season kick off game between our Atlanta Falcons and the Philadelphia Eagles, for those of us that weren’t able to stay awake.

Bill Bender then joins us from the Buckeye state of Ohio. We start off by joking if he’s had any Urban Meyer sightings. Bill tells us about his experiences in Atlanta and his thoughts on SEC Media Days.

Notre Dame gets a nod from Bill, who thinks the team could find themselves in the CFB Playoffs this year. He gives us his take on the never-ending conversation about whether Jim Harbaugh is a good fit at Michigan.

I kick around the state of the SEC with Bill. Bill breaks down his thoughts on some of the teams and throws out a huge compliment acknowledging Georgia and Alabama as part of short list of true contenders.

Bill gives our state some props for the talent pool and thinks every college recruiter around the country should be fishing from.

I ask Bill his thoughts on Georgia and Georgia Tech from a national writer’s perspective. He feel like Georgia is right there knocking on the door for a potential National Championship but cautions that while Kirby Smart draws from his time at Alabama, Georgia doesn’t want to quite be Alabama.

We really appreciate Bill taking the time to come on. Definitely check him out on

Next we bring on David Berger to break down Saturday’s big game between Georgia and South Carolina. David offers us what some South Carolina fans are saying about the game, which is definitely entertaining if nothing else.

It’s a great episode and a great lead into Week 2!
