Eagles falls to Panthers 24-30

Georgia Southern is 0-2 when traveling to Atlanta this year. This time the Eagles lose a tough one to the Georgia State Panthers. The Panthers started quick with a 20-0 lead before Georgia Southern’s quarterback Kevin Ellison could get in the end zone with a 24 yard run. Ellison had 101 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Georgia Southern had 241 yards rushing as a team on 46 carries. By halftime the Eagles had cut the score to 17-20. After halftime, the Eagles defense let the Panthers get back on the score board with  a touchdown and a field goal. Georgia Southern tried to make a come back in the fourth quarter. The Eagles got in the end zone with 4:42 left in the game with a one yard run by running back LA Ramsby. The Eagles had one final drive with 1:14 left in the game, but couldn’t get the offense going and turned it over on downs.

Georgia Southern couldn’t hold onto the ball when they needed to. The Eagles had two fumbles and lost both of them. The eleven penalties for 78 yards hurt the Eagles. Coach Summers said those were two major things that hurt the team the most. Coach Summers also mentioned that its tough to win a game when falling down 20-0 in the first quarter. The Eagles did fight back, but just came up short. Special teams blocked a field goal and an extra point for the Eagles. With this loss, Georgia Southern will not become bowl eligible this season. The Eagles still have one more game this season against Troy at Paulson Stadium on December 3rd. The Eagles will try to end the season on a good note.
