The Atlanta Falcons claimed former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Taylor Gabriel off the waiver wire today. In order to make room for him on the roster, the team waived wide receiver Nick Williams.
Gabriel played two seasons for the Browns. During his rookie season in 2014, Gabriel caught 36 passes for 621 yards averaging 17.3 yards per catch while playing for Kyle Shanahan, currently the Falcons’ offensive coordinator.
It is expected that Falcons Head Coach Dan Quinn will decide this week which player(s) will participate in the kick and punt return duties. Tevin Coleman, Justin Hardy and Eric Weems look to be in the rotation for punt and kick return duties.
Gabriel is 5-foot-8 inches tall, 167 pounds and will enter his third year of service in the National Football League. He played his college ball at Abilene Christian in Texas. He ran the 40 yard dash in 4.27 seconds at his pro day.
The Falcons signed wide receiver J.D. McKissic, defensive end Nordly Capi, cornerback Devonte Johnson, nose tackle Joey Mbu, safety Sharrod Neasman, quarterback Matt Simms and tight end D.J. Tialavea to the practice squad. They have filled seven out of the 10 practice squad spots available.
