Tuesday, the Atlanta Falcons resigned linebacker O’Brien Schofield. He was also being looked at by the New England Patriots and the New York Jets. Last season, Schofield had 28 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and hit the quarterback 13 times. He will wear number 54.
Also, linebacker Paul Worrilow will be ruled out of action at least for four weeks due to a groin injury. He will have surgery. Although, his agent Jim Ulrich said Worrilow is seeking a second opinion and believes he will be back in three weeks. In addition, Worrilow had been playing with a muscle tear in his abdomen for a while and the pain eventually led to the groin injury.
Matt Ryan has had an impressive start of the season. He has completed 72.6% of his passes, for 730 yards, 5 touchdowns and one interception. After the 35-28 win in Oakland, Dan Quinn said those stats were more reflective of Kyle Shanahan’s offense offering multiple looks.
“A lot of people got involved yesterday in terms of the catches, Quinn said Monday. “I thought the tight ends, in specifically had a really big day. Both the running backs, I think when you totaled them up together it was over 160 yards running and catching. I think just about everybody suited up had the ball. When you can have different guys catch it, the sliders, the deep plays, the play out of the backfield, that’s what makes it really challenging. I thought that was especially impressive by the offense yesterday, the amount of guys that got involved in the game.”
Julio Jones will be expected to play Monday, even though he is battling leg and ankle injuries. Also, defensive end Nordly Capi and cornerback Devonte Johnson were waived from the practice squad Tuesday.
The Atlanta Falcons will play the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this Monday night. The game will be telecast on ESPN. Pete Morelli will be the referee.
