Fan Experience: The Atlanta BeltLine

I am on a mission to lose 60 pounds by the end of 2016.

So far, I have lost 15 pounds in a month due to changing my diet and working out regularly. My exercise regimen includes working out at a local gym, taking boxing and kickboxing classes and walking around or climbing Stone Mountain.

I recently added biking on the Atlanta BeltLine to my workout routine on May 28.

It was my first visit to the BeltLine. The Atlanta BeltLine Project is a major planning initiative for Atlanta that provides an opportunity to bring together neighborhood revitalization, new development and workforce housing organized around a 22-mile corridor of transit, trails, open space, historic resources, and public art, according to the city’s website.

I rented a bicycle from Atlanta BeltLine Bicycle and biked down the trail from the Old Forth Ward neighborhood to Piedmont Park on the east side of the city. I saw parts of the city that I’ve never seen before, from stylish apartments and town homes, restaurants, a skate park and interesting art work.

IMG_5632The ride from the bike shop to Piedmont Park was more smoothly than I expected as I biked pass runners, walkers and other cyclists; also admiring the art work along the way.

It got a little difficult on the way back to the bike shop; turning into an actual workout. I had to stop a couple of times to catch my breath and drink some water, but I was able to finish the ride within 35 minutes.

My first experience on the BeltLine was a good one and I plan to bike on the trail again.
