Georgia Southern travels to Atlanta for the second time this year. This time the Eagles are headed to the Georgia Dome to play in-state rival Georgia State. It’s only the third time that these two teams have met. The series is tied 1-1. Georgia Southern won the first meeting and then last season Georgia State winning. Both teams come into this game riding a three game losing streak. Georgia State just fired their head coach so they will have an interim head coach for this game. Georgia Southern will be looking to get quarterbacks Kevin Ellison and Favian Upshaw back from injuries. Both were listened on the depth chart for this game. If neither can go again Georgia Southern’s true freshman quarterback Seth Shuman will have to run the offense for the second straight game.
Georgia Southern’s defense has given up 400 plus yards in the last seven games. Georgia Southern has struggled after starting the season 3-0. The Eagles still have a chance to become bowl eligible, if they win the last two games of the season. With this being a rivalry game I’m sure Georgia State would love to put an end to Georgia Southern trying to make a bowl game. Both teams don’t pass the ball very well, Georgia Southern normally can count on the ground game but that will depend on who is at quarterback for this game. The Eagles may have to rely on the special teams this game to come out of Atlanta with a win. We’ll find out when the game starts at two on Saturday.
Hail Southern and No Place Else!
