Georgia Southern crushes Georgia State 88-65

Georgia Southern ends the 2016 year with another win. Their record is 8-6 now. They opened the Sun Belt Conference games with a win over in-state rival Georgia State. Before I talk about that game, last time I wrote the Eagles had one more game left on a four game road trip. The game was at Winthrop on December 20th. The Eagles went into the game riding a two game winning streak. The game went down to the final second. At half time Georgia Southern had the game under control leading 40-31. Winthrop started making their comeback halfway through the second half eventually taking the lead late in the game. Georgia Southern was down by two with just seconds left in the game. With time for one last shot Georgia Southern’s guard Ike Smith took a three, unfortunately the shot was blocked and the clock had expired. Georgia Southern loss 86-84 to become .500 on the season. Next up for Georgia Southern was a game at home against NAIA Fisk. Georgia Southern won 106-58. That was the first game the Eagles have hit the century mark.

Georgia Southern crushes Georgia State in the Sun Belt opener 88-65. The Eagles shot 40 percent from three point range, they made 10 out of 25 three pointers. Georgia Southern also shot 61 percent from the free throw line, going 20 for 33. The Eagles turned the Panthers over  22 times in the game, but the Panthers out rebounded the Eagles 51 to 31. That’s a good way to finish a year out. Hopefully the Eagles will continue their winning streak going when Troy comes to Statesboro on January 7th. I wish everybody a Happy New Year and Go Eagles!

Hail Southern and No Place Else!
