Last Saturday night Georgia Southern traveled to play a non-conference showdown game against Western Michigan. Honstly, in my opinion the better team won on that night. Western Michigan (4-0) won 49-31 and really ran away from Georgia Southern (3-1) in the second quarter when the Broncos score 28 points. Georgia Southern just got beat up on both ends of the field. The Eagles had to use three quarterbacks in the game. All three combined to only throw for 168 yards for three touchdowns and two interceptions. Before quarterback Favian Upshaw left the game with an injury he was 4 for 6 for 106 yards with two touchdowns and a interception. The running game didn’t fare that well either. Georgia Southern’s running game only ran for 202 yards, the lowest in a game on the season. The defense wasn’t the same defense we all saw the first two games of the season. Western Michigan quarterback Zach Terrell threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns. While running back Jamauri Bogan gained 104 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
I have confidence in Georgia Southern that this game was only a minor setback. They will be ready the next game and looking to play better. Lucky for Georgia Southern this week is a bye week. This gives guys time to get heathly and to come back strong to finish the three road games we have before our next home game. This is no normal bye week for Georgia Southern because they have to get ready to play Wednesday October 5th. Georgia Southern travels to Jonesboro, Arkansas to play the Arkansas State Red Wolves (0-4). The game is on ESPN 2 so tune in and see Georgia Southern bound back and get another win in the SunBelt.
Hail Southern and No Place Else!
