The last game of a four game road trip for Georgia Southern was Saturday against New Mexico State. The Eagles haven’t won a game on this road trip. That streak is over now. Georgia Southern (4-3) won 22-19 in a come from behind game. The game started slow with Georgia Southern leading after the first quarter 3-0. The second quarter wasn’t any better for the Eagles but it was for New Mexico State. At the half, New Mexico State had a 9-6 lead. Georgia Southern found the end zone for the first time in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Kevin Ellison had a game. He went seven for eight for 101 yards with two touchdowns and one interception through the air. Both touchdown passes were to running backs. On the ground Ellison ran 20 times for 117 yards, which lead the team. Georgia Southern had their ground game going again. They ran for 247 yards. New Mexico State tried to make it a game and come back. The Aggies scored a touchdown with 1:19 remaining. Then tried an onside kick which Georgia Southern recovered. With the win the Eagles move into second in the SunBelt with only one lose in the conference.
Georgia Southern is back home this Thursday night in a huge SunBelt Conference game against Appalachian State. Georgia Southern versus Appalachian State is always a big game for both teams. This game could determine the SunBelt Conference Champion in the long run but we will have to wait and see.
