Georgia Southern Soars Past Coastal Carolina

Georgia Southern gets another Sun Belt win. The Eagles are now 7-0 in conference play this season. This game was Georgia Southern’s game from the tip, they never trailed. The Eagles had five players in double figures in scoring. Coastal Carolina also had five in double figures. Sophomore guard Tookie Brown led the Eagles with 23 points. The Sun Belt Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Ike Smith had 21 points. Brown and Smith combined to make eight three points. The Eagles led by 10 at half, 44-34. Coastal Carolina tried to close the gap by making it 61-56 with 9:48 left in the game, then the Eagles went on a 20-4 run making it 81-60 with about five minutes left. The Eagles won 91-80 to move to 14-6 on the season. The difference in the game was Georgia Southern shot 52.7 percent overall, while hitting 13 three pointers and outscoring Coastal Carolina 20-5 from the free throw line.


This is Georgia Southern’s first win against Coastal Carolina in five tries now. These two teams will play again this season on February 11th at Coastal Carolina’s place. Next up for the Eagles is South Alabama on Saturday January 28th. Georgia Southern will travel to South Alabama. South Alabama is 9-11 overall and 2-5 in the conference. South Alabama has lost three straight now and lost to the Eagles on the 9th of January 84-79 in overtime. The first game between these two was a good one and the second time around shouldn’t disappoint. Georgia Southern will be looking to go 8-0 in the conference.
