Probably the biggest game of the year for Georgia Southern is tonight. Tonight is a rivalry game against one of the three teams tied for first in the Sun Belt Conference, Appalachian State. The rivalry game is known as “Deeper than Hate.” Our biggest game versus our biggest rival on national TV, it’s going to be a fun game to watch. Last time I said that and Georgia Southern (4-3) blew it on national TV but they are coming off a big win for them against New Mexico State. App State (5-2) is coming off a 37-19 victory over Idaho. The two games App State lost have been against big schools, Tennessee and Miami (FL). App State took Tennessee into overtime and in my book gave that game away. Georgia Southern and App State both joined FBS and the Sun Belt in 2014. Since then App State has a record of 23-9, while Georgia Southern has a record of 22-10.
One of the best runners in college football, App State’s running back Marcus Cox has missed the last four games but could make his return tonight. Even if he was to come back for tonight’s game could App State’s running game out run the best rushing offense in the Sun Belt. I doubt it, Georgia Southern is averaging 263.9 rushing yards per game. That’s good enough to rank Georgia Southern tenth in the FBS. The Mountaineer’s defense has only given up 124.4 rushing yards per game. One teams going to look back after the game wonder what went wrong. This is a rivalry game and stats don’t mean much when two teams that have this much hate for each other. How much does this game mean to Georgia Southern, teachers cancelled late classes so students can get ready for the game. Georgia Southern fans are going to pack Paulson Stadium and wear their blue tonight because it’s a Blue Out. The game starts at 7:30 PM on ESPNU. Tune in to watch this rivalry game and see who is gets the better of the two this year.
Hail Southern and No Place Else!
