Saturday Georgia Southern played its last game of the season against Troy. Troy was looking to get their tenth win of the season and a share of the Sun Belt Conference Title. Georgia Southern had other plans on their mind Saturday. They wanted to send their seniors out on top. Georgia Southern snapped a four-game losing streak and beat Troy for the fourth time in a row. The Eagles beat Troy 28-24.The Eagles had a total of 393 yards on the day, with 218 of them being on the ground. Senior quarterback Kevin Ellison had 115 and two touchdowns on the ground, he also added two more touchdowns in the air. Both throwing touchdowns were to senior wide receiver BJ Johnson III, who had 129 yards and two touchdowns on the day. These seniors stepped up to get a hard-fought victory against a very talented team in Troy. Troy even though they didn’t get their tenth victory and a share of the Sun Belt Title they are still going to a bowl game.
The Eagles finished the season with a disappointing record of 5-7 this season. After the game Saturday it was announced that Coach Summers would be back season. Even though it was a down year I believe a new coach needs more than just one year to prove himself. I stand by the decision Georgia Southern made keeping Coach Summers. Since Coach Summers is coming back next year he has already made changes to his coaching staff. As of Sunday both offensive coordinators, David Dean and Rance Gillespie, have been relieved of their duties. Smart move yes, should have been done during the season probably but its done now. Georgia Southern will look to next season to try to get back in the Sun Belt Title conversation. I think with the returning guys they should be right there next season.
Hail Southern and No Place Else!
