After being selected No. 1 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers, then traded to the Timberwolves for some guy named Kevin Love, Andrew Wiggins ended his excellent rookie season averaging 17 points, and 5 rebounds this season. Wiggins accepted the award Thursday during a press conference accompanied by Timberwolves head coach Flip Saunders, and Wolves GM Milt Newton.
Wiggins received 110 of 130 first place votes, the second place rookie after Wiggins received 14 first place votes for the award. This was not to much surprise as top NBA Draft classmates Jabari Parker and former Kansas teammate Joel Embiid are both sideline due to injuries. Looking forward to seeing more from Wiggins as he grows in the league.
