Thursday, Atlanta Falcons linebacker Deion Jones was named the NFL Rookie Defensive Player of the Month. Jones returned a Drew Brees interception 90 yards for a touchdown Monday night against the Saints. Through three games, Jones has 25 tackles (20 solo, five assists), two pass breakups and the aforementioned pick six. He has excelled through three games as he calls signals for the Falcons defense.
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was named NFC Offensive Player of the Month. Through three games, Ryan has completed 73 of 103 pass attempts for 970 yards. His yardage total is 4th in the NFL and behind Brees (1,062), Washington’s Kirk Cousins (989) and Detroit’s Matthew Stafford (985). Ryan also has 7 touchdown passes, one interception and a quarterback rating of 119.0.
Also, Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox and Washington Redskins kicker Dustin Hopkins received NFC Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Month in September.
New England running back LeGarrette Blount, Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller and Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker received AFC Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Month honors Thursday.
Philadelphia Eagles Rookie Quarterback Carson Wentz received NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month honors Thursday. Wentz has completed 67% of his passes, has 5 touchdowns with no interceptions. His Eagles are 3-0 on the season.
